How is cold pressed coconut oil made?
The first procedure to get cold pressed coconut oil is to collect full grown coconuts and spread them in a huge space. The matured coconut flesh is taken out of the shell and is left to dry in the sun.
The coconuts should dry in the hot sun for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours. It should dry till all the water content is drained and becomes a copra (kopparai thengai). Once the copras are ready, they are put into the wooden press. The machine slowly grinds the copra coconuts to pulp them into pieces and it releases the first form of oil.
It goes under two to three rounds of grinding until all the oil content are pressed out of the copra coconuts. The oil is then let to stay for about two days in the huge containers before they are packed in the bottles. This is because the copra remains will get settled in the bottom of the containers, while the purest form oil is carefully packed in the bottles.
